Refunds & Cancellation
Last updated 14 September 2026 · Version 1.1
What you can cancel, what you get back, and what you do not — set out plainly, with the reasons.
Nothing in this policy removes or limits your statutory rights. Where anything here conflicts with the law, the law wins.
1. Two different things, two different policies
We handle two kinds of payment and the law treats them differently.
- Membership — the $1 monthly network fee and your Sadaqah Jariyah contribution. This is an ongoing service.
- Merchandise — physical goods bought from us, including pre-orders. These are goods sold at a distance.
2. Membership — the network fee
The $1 network fee is not refundable. That includes the first 14 days. Here is exactly why, so you can judge it for yourself.
Membership is a service bought at a distance, so the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you 14 days from joining in which to cancel. At checkout you expressly ask us to start the service straight away, inside that period, and you acknowledge that if you then cancel you must pay for what has already been supplied.
We start immediately. Your chain number is issued the moment you register, your place in the chain is recorded, and the network for that month is provided to you in full. Under regulation 36 of those Regulations you pay an amount in proportion to what has been supplied. Because the fee buys one month at a time and that month is supplied to you at once, the proportionate amount is the whole of that month's fee.
So: cancel whenever you like, and every future payment stops immediately. The month you have already paid for is not returned, because you have already had it.
Two things would change that, and we tell you plainly: if you had not made that express request, or if we had failed to give you the cancellation information the Regulations require, you would bear no cost at all. We give you that information at checkout, on this page and in your confirmation email.
3. Membership — your Sadaqah Jariyah
Your Sadaqah Jariyah is authorised when you register but not collected. It is not collected on the milestone alone: collection begins only when the chain reaches 100,000 members and the funds sit under governed custody. We email you seven days before the first charge. Cancel before then and nothing is taken.
No Sadaqah is being collected at present, and none will be until the network reaches 100,000 members and the funds are held under a governed arrangement — held by a registered charity under a written agreement on our terms, or by Chain of Deeds itself once we are a registered charity with our own charity bank account. Once collection begins and a contribution has been taken, it is not refundable, because it is applied to building and buying assets that pass into community ownership, and that cannot be reversed.
If a contribution is taken in error, at the wrong time, or in the wrong amount, we refund it in full. That is a mistake on our side, not a cancellation on yours.
4. Merchandise — your right to cancel
You may cancel a merchandise order for any reason, without giving one.
4.1 Before dispatch
Cancel at any time before your order is dispatched and you get a full refund, including the basic delivery cost.
4.2 After delivery
You have 14 days from the day after you receive the goods to tell us you are cancelling, and a further 14 days after that to send them back.
4.3 What we refund
The price you paid, plus the basic delivery cost. If you chose a faster delivery option than our standard one, we refund the standard cost, not the premium. We refund within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or of you showing us they have been sent, whichever is earlier, using the same payment method you used.
4.4 Return postage
You pay for return postage unless the item is faulty, incorrect or damaged, in which case we do. We recommend obtaining proof of postage.
4.5 Handling
You may examine goods as you would in a shop. If you handle them beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning, and their value is reduced as a result, we may deduct that reduction from your refund. Trying a garment on is fine. Wearing it out is not.
4.6 Faulty goods
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If they are not, you have a short-term right to reject within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. After 30 days and within six months you may ask for a repair or replacement, and if that fails you may claim a refund; during that period a fault is presumed to have been present at delivery unless we can show otherwise.
4.7 Personalised goods
Goods made to your specification or clearly personalised cannot be returned under the cancellation right. Standard sizes and standard designs are not personalised and are fully returnable.
4.8 Damaged or missing in transit
Goods are our responsibility until they come into your physical possession. If your order arrives damaged, incomplete or does not arrive, tell us within 14 days of the expected delivery date and we will replace or refund. We pursue the carrier, not you.
4.9 Pre-orders and delays
Pre-orders are expected to ship November 2026. If we cannot meet that, we will tell you and you may cancel for a full refund. If we cannot supply at all, we refund in full without you having to ask.
4.10 How to cancel or return
Email admin@chainofdeeds.com with your order number. A clear statement that you are cancelling is enough — any wording will do. We will confirm and tell you where to send the item.
5. Refusing a parcel to avoid import charges
If you are outside the UK and you refuse a parcel to avoid import duty or tax, that is treated as a cancellation. We will refund the price of the goods less the delivery and return costs we actually incur.
6. Complaints
If you think we have got a refund wrong, write to admin@chainofdeeds.com. We will acknowledge within five working days. Nothing in this policy affects your right to take the matter further.
