The farm.
A 560-hectare estate near Toledo with its own water: 8 legal wells and registered private water of about 1.7 billion litres a year. 390 hectares are irrigated by two pivots and 170 are dry farmland. The irrigated land grows nuts today and switches to wheat, oats and barley, the grains that make bread and porridge. Bought once and held as waqf by a Spanish fundación: it can never be sold without government approval, and the grain goes to the people it serves. Accounts are independently audited every six months.
The water
1.7 billion litres a year of registered private water from 8 wells, owned outright.
Held as waqf
Held by a Spanish fundación. Any sale needs government approval. It can never be sold. What it grows goes to the people it serves.
Who it feeds.
About 27,000 people a year, from wheat, oats and barley. This is our estimate from the size of the farm and will be confirmed before the vote.
