The farm.
A working dairy farm in southern Chile, with its own water owned outright. The farm holds 36 litres a second of permanent water rights, 5 km of river and 8 ponds, so the grass grows and the herd is fed in dry years too. 222 hectares are dairy, with fruit and nut orchards beside them. Bought once and held as waqf: it can never be sold, and the milk and food it produces go to the people it serves, year after year. Accounts are independently audited every six months.
The water
1.1 billion litres a year (36 litres a second) of permanent water rights, owned outright, plus 5 km of river and 8 ponds.
Held as waqf
Held by a Chilean fundación. The water must stay in use to keep the rights. It can never be sold. What it grows goes to the people it serves.
Who it feeds.
About 30,000 people a year, from dairy. This is our estimate from the size of the farm and will be confirmed before the vote.
